9/11
- On September 11th, 2001 four American commercial jetliners, with civilians on board, were hijacked by brainwashed Al-Qaeda terrorists and flown into the Pentagon, the Twin Towers and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
- There were teams of 4-6 hijackers per plane, these terrorists were able to gain control of the cockpit and crash the planes into buildings of political and military significance along the east coast.
- The attacks damaged a large section of the pentagon and farmland in Pennsylvania as well as completely destroying the world trade center in New York, which collapsed caused by the damage of the plane crashes.
- The brave passengers who took over flight United 93 (plane that was heading for the white house) fought valiantly and succeeded in regaining control of the plane from the hijackers before crash landing the plane in the Pennsylvania field. Tragically none of the passengers survived.
- In total almost 3,000 people died including the 19 terrorists. This day marked the beginning of Al Qaeda's self-proclaimed “Holy War” on the United States and is thought to mark the beginning of the United States “War on Terror."
Destruction of World Trade Center
- World Trade Center: A complex of 7 buildings in New York featuring twin skyscrapers 110 stories high, designed by Minoru Yamasaki and completed in 1972. The twin towers were destroyed in a terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, with the loss of about 2,700 lives.
Destruction of The Pentagon
- In total 189 people died at the Pentagon on 9/11. 65 of them in the airplane and the remaining inside the building. American Airlines flight 77 flew into the southeast corner of the pentagon at over 500 mph, leaving a gaping hole in the side of the building and taking almost 200 lives.
Destruction In Shanksville
- United Airlines Flight 93 crash landed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Although the exact destination of the high jacked airplane is unknown, it is thought that it was headed towards either the white house, or the capital building. In total 40 people died in the crash, 33 passengers and the 7 hijackers.
