Process Paper
1. Topic choice- the topic we chose as a group is 9/11 and the rise of Osama Bin Laden/ Al- Qaeda. We chose this because we all found this very interesting and decided this would be entertaining to research and find out more about the effect this had on the United States.
2. Research- In order to acquire information we conducted research in various different websites, books, and encyclopedias. We have various primary sources from many references including speeches from both presidents Obama and George W. Bush. Also checked out an Autobiography "No Easy Day" from one of the Navy Seals who conducted the mission that ultimately ended Osama bin Laden's reign of terror. Lastly our goals for each member of our group for research check 2 was to find 1 broad context and 2 primary sources and we have all been assigned a different group to research. For instance we broadened our searches to Osama bin laden background, Al- Qaeda, Seal team Six, 9/11, Taliban, and ultimately the assassination that took place in Abottadad, Pakistan on May 1st, 2011. Coincidentally, Adolf Hitler also died on May 1st.
3. Category Choice- As a group we decided to do a website, we figured since none of us are very artistic that doing a visual poster wouldn't benefit us well and all of us have the basic computer skills to conduct a well processed website.
4. Connection To Theme- Bin Laden's rise to power connects directly to the NHD theme. 2,998 casualties in New York City resulted in the single, worst act of terrorism our country and the world had ever seen. Never in one single day had their been an event that would drastically change the world and lives of everyone living in the nation we call home. This would start a revolution in the United States that reminded everyone that we, as a nation, would have to remain strong and united to put an end to terrorism. To end it, the CIA knew they would have to stop the man. A Saudi Arabian born mastermind, welcomed into a rich family worth billions. This mans obsession with inflicting pain and torture on millions worldwide would change the world forever. Osama Bin Laden's reign of terror directly resulted to the greatest manhunt in American history; 10 years of constant searching for any whereabouts, clues, and leads came to an eventual end on May 1st, 2011 in Abottadad, Pakistan. The well-planned raid in early hours of the day gave America hope that we would never stop fighting.
