James Zadroga 9/11 Health & Compensation Act
- This act is named after a New York police officer, James Zadroga, that sacrificed his life trying to save others in the 9/11 attacks who died due to a respiratory disease from the debris left from the World Trade Center.
- Providing $4.2 billion for the health of people who worked at Ground Zero during and after the attacks.
- Ground Zero: After the destruction of the World Trade Center on 9/11 --> everything that was left was called Ground Zero
- This act will ensure that first responders, survivors (residents, local workers and students), and volunteers suffering health problems as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks receive specialized health care and the compensation they need and deserve, for the next five years.
- 263 Government organizations were either created or reorganized following the 9/11 attacks
- 1,200 government organizations & 1,900 private companies do work related to counter terrorism
- Budgets for defense-related agencies also increased.
- The Coast Guard, Transportation Security Administration, and Border Patrol budgets have doubled since 2001
